Model helicopters at Cumbernauld.

Flying helicopters at the club

The club has a large helicopter and drone section. Cumbernauld Model Flying Club happily accommodates flying on the main flying zone by fixed wing, helicopters, and drones following the club flying rules.

Getting started with helicopters

There is a wealth of experience in the club's helicopter flyers. Come to the field and have a chat with them if you're wanting to learn. They'll be able to give you advice on what's needed, and help you get started.

The club has a trainer helicopter available on a buddy box that can be used for trial flights and training. An instructor can teach you using this until you get your own.

Where and when to fly

There is a dedicated helicopter pits area and a flying field where helicopters can perform hover manoeuvres. Helicopters also use the main field for flights in between other aircraft flying.

The helicopter flyers tend to meet early in the morning at weekends when the field is quieter, but they fly whenever the weather is suitable.
